It's Time to Get a Pool Heater

Pools come in all shapes and sizes. So, how do you know which pool heater would work best with your pool. In order to maximize your time in the pool, it is important to match the size of the pool heater to the surface area of the pool. Surface area is measured in square feet. Just find the product of the length and width of your pool in order to obtain the surface area. Most residential pools range from 300 sq ft to 2400 sq ft.

For smaller above ground pools (300 - 400 sq ft), the Raypak 106 and 156 pool heaters would do a great job. These Raypak pool heaters offer factory wired 120 V electrical cords for easy and affordable installs and can also be upgraded to 240 V. The burners are made of stainless steel which helps prevent rust thus extending the life of the unit. One key way that these two heaters differ is the thermostat. On the 106, the thermostat has an analog control. The analog dial is easy to operate and very accurate.The 156, on the other hand, has a digital control system. With this control system your desired temperature is only a few button pushes away. The digital read out not only displays the current temperature but also displays diagnostic readings allowing you to quickly troubleshoot any problems. The 156 is also remote compatible so you can sit back, relax, and heat your pool with little to no effort.

For those that are more environmentally conscientious, Raypak offers a greener pool heater called the LOW NOx. Copper Fin Tube is the standard heat exchanger for the residential units. Copper is used to efficiently transfer the heat which extends the life of the unit. If you have poor water conditions or a corrosive environment, the Cupronickel Fin Tube would be the way to go.

If you’re planning on installing your pool heater in an equipment room I recommend getting yourself a D-2 Power Vent. It is a compact unit and mounts on top of the pool heater with a 4” diameter exhaust.
